Hello, firstly I would like to just say thank you for visiting my website. My name is Paul Haywood FGA DGA, the founder and owner of The Haywood Collection and I would like to use this page to give you a bit of background on myself and how The Haywood Collection came into being.
Ever since I can remember, I have always had a fascination with jewellery but after a few years working in sales and customer services, I thought it was time to get a ‘proper’ career and the plan was to become an accountant and after studying business and then accounting, I soon found out that sitting behind a desk and dealing with figures all day was not for me. In 2011 while deciding what path to take next, I took a job working for a high street company that bought scrap gold as one of their services and it was dealing with all these different pieces that made me realise that jewellery was what I wanted to do with my life.
It was during this time that I was looking for an engagement ring and going into all these different jewellery shops was an amazing experience and only reinforced that this was what I wanted to do.
Starting out on my own – 2012
In the summer of 2012, following a short period working for a pawnbrokers, I decided it was time to go it alone and and started Haywoods Jewellery with the goal of providing stunning gold jewellery combined with excellent customer service.
The Golden Years – 2012 – 2014
The business went from strength to strength over the next two years and the range grew to include a variety of 9ct gold and sterling silver jewellery. While the jewellery itself was of very good quality, I always felt that exceptional customer service is what seperates a good business from a great one and that was why I always tried to provide the best service I could.
Gems and Diamonds – 2015 – 2017
I decided at the start of 2015 to extend our range to include a beautiful selection of gemstone and diamond jewellery to compliment our already successful gold jewellery.
The introduction of gemstone jewellery was a great success and it lead me to want to learn more about gemstones so that I could answer any questions that customers could ask, the way I could with any of the precious metals I sold, so I enrolled on the Gemmology course and the School of Jewellery in Birmingham in the autumn of 2015 and graduated in 2017.
Introducing the Collection – 2018
During the summer of 2018, I decided that I wanted to be more than just an online retailer as there are so many out there who see jewellery as just another thing to sell. For me that is not the case, each piece is special in its own way and will mean something to the person that owns it. So I stopped buying ready made pieces that any other jeweller could sell and completely changed the process, so that now:
- Each piece in the collection now starts with the gemstone or diamond that is hand selected by myself.
- I then either design or work with designers to create a piece that is good enough for the stone.
- The piece is then made by the best british craftsmen to produce a piece that I am proud to put my name to.
As a born and bred brummie, I am hugely proud of the history, heritage and prestige that surrounds Birmingham’s world famous jewellery quarter and it has always been a magical place to me. That is why every piece that is part of the collection is made in the heart of the jewellery quarter.
Another facet of the business that I added in 2018 was to work with clients to help create their perfect piece of jewellery by offering a bespoke jewellery service.
The Wow Factor
I love buying diamonds and gemstones, it is one of the best parts of my job. I only ever select stones that I look at and think wow and if the stones still gives me the wow factor when examined under magnification, then I will look to add it to the collection.
